Suppliers Sell a Low Quality Meat to UK by Using Misleading Labeling Represent The Product

European meat suppliers are selling a low quality meat known as desinewed meat (DSM) to UK sausage companies, and are using misleading labeling such as Baader meat and 3mm mince to represent the product.

DSM is type of mechanically separated meat retrieved from animal bones using low pressure water. In 2012, the European Union (EU) noted that while DSM can be used in meat products, it cannot count towards the meat content of a product.

Even though the labeling of DSM is mandatory and the product cannot be considered as meat, the European meat suppliers are using names such as 'Baader meat' to avoid DSM labeling and supply the product, reported bbc.co.uk.

Baader meat is a type of desinewed meat produced on a low pressure extraction machine made by German company Baader. It is believed that the use of Baader meat in the UK is widespread.

Meanwhile, food safety experts are seeking clearer and transparent labeling of products to avoid the use of low quality meat. Reasons such as pressure on prices, driven by competition among supermarkets, are forcing meat suppliers to use low quality meat and ingredients.
