GTA Online Cheaters Targeted by New Rockstar Offensive

If you're a GTA Online player and you've used a mod, cheat, or glitch to swell your in-game bank accounts, you might be disappointed the next time you load up the game.

Rockstar Games has launched a new crackdown on players who have gained money "illegitimately" in the online mode of GTA 5.

In an update on the support forums, Rockstar states: "To keep the gameplay environment fair we have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts.

"If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account."

As VG24/7 reports, users who have used unauthorised methods of gaining in-game currency are seeing the following message appear when logging into the game:

"We have determined that your account illegitimately gained in-game money via mods, cheats or other actions. We've adjusted your account and updated your balance.

"No additional action is pending against your account. Note that accounts that illegitimately gain money in the future will be subjected to action including the Cheater Pool, account reset or suspension of Online access."

Rockstar has been known to go after unscrupulous players in the past, enforcing account bans in 2015 on players that used mods and cheats to gain an advantage.

GTA forum users are already reporting being affected by the new crackdown, with user Viper-Venom writing: "every single person I know who has a modded account has had their money reset to $0."

Rockstar isn't messing around this time either, introducing an update to its suspension and ban policy that will see users' GTA Online characters reset along with all online progress, property and inventory.
