China September Polysilicon Imports Hit Record

China imported 9,942 tons of polysilicon in September, the highest-ever monthly level with on-month growth of 18.7%, according to the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA).

Of the import volume, 6,415 tons or 64.52% came through export processing zones (EPZs). Of the imports through EPZs, 1,698 tons came from the US.

The China government on September 1, 2014 put a ban on imports of solar-grade polysilicon through EPZs to block evasion of anti-trust tariffs. However, China's Ministry of Commerce had approved many applications for solar-grade polysilicon imports, mostly from the US, during August 14-29, with these imports not subject to the ban until the end of 2014.
