Germany-based Dienes Packaging has selected global styrenics supplier Styrolution as its exclusive supplier of transparent specialty grade, Zylar BX6503 (methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene copolymers).
Dienes is using the grade in the production of transparent canisters of over one liter capacity.
Zylar BX6503, which is characterized by a combination of clarity and toughness, cools quickly during the canister production process.
The material offers overall cost and material savings due to its specific gravity advantage, flow properties and processing temperatures.
According to Styrolution, the process of producing an integrated handle with Zylar is made possible in a single step with less shrinkage.
The material also provides flexibility to customers in placing the neck and opening of a canister not only in the middle but also on either the left or right side of the container.
An additional advantage of Zylar-based canisters is that shrinkage for inline labeling is reduced considerably, doing away with the presence of wrinkles or bubbles in the label.
Dienes Packaging CEO and owner Klaus Dienes said the company searched for the right material that would enable it to use its existing PE extrusion blow molding technology to produce transparent canisters.
"Through the cooperation with Styrolution and our use of Zylar for the canisters, Dienes Packaging has gained a competitive edge in terms of product appearance and performance," Dienes said.
The joint project between the packaging company and Styrolution is being supported by tools from POLY-TOOLS bennewart. Industrial liquid containers specialist Ernst Vertriebsgesellschaft will sell the first canisters.
