Samsung Has Today Unveiled Two New Displays Aimed Squarely at The Business Sector

Samsung has today unveiled two new displays aimed squarely at the business sector due to their unusual designs and potential to draw in the crowds.

The first is called the Samsung LED square display and offers up a 1:1 screen aspect ratio unlike the more typical rectangular 16:9 and 16:10 displays we are used to seeing. Samsung claims this new 21.6″ square display cuts power use by 30% over existing LCD technology due to the use of Direct LED backlighting coupled with automatic brightness adjustment based on surrounding light levels.

The real selling point for the square display, however, is the ability to tile them together. A bezel just 5.5mm thick means you can easily put several together to form a larger display. In fact, Samsung says you can display a single image across 100 squares, making for some seriously large displays appearing in stores and at public events. Once you start tiling that 30% power saving is really going to add up, too.

Samsung has also finally decided to bring a 22-inch version of its transparent display, first shown off during CES in January, to market. Known as the NL22B, Samsung is touting it as the first all-in-one transparent display solution and will be offering it in both wall-mounted and cabinet form.

As the display is transparent it allows for imagery to be put in front of an actual device, hence the option to buy a display cabinet with it integrated. Don't expect it to be cheap though, as Samsung has included a built-in PC and speaker system to power whatever visuals and audio you want the transparent display to output.

Combine these two new displays and soon we may be walking into tech stores and being presented with an interactive showcase. A wall of square displays running HD video combined with devices housed in animated cabinets. I suspect Samsung's own stores may be some of the first to get such a setup installed.

We should get a better look at both the square and transparent displays later this week when IFA 2012 kicks off in Germany. Samsung is sure to have a wall full of tiled square displays and its latest gadgets housed in some transparent cabinets during the show.
