The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) have started joint inspection of readymade garment (RMG) manufacturing units in Chittagong region.
The inspection team comprises of engineers of the CDA and directors of BGMEA, according to The Financial Express report. During its visit to the factories, the team will inspect the units for durability and safety of buildings. Post-inspection, the team will submit its report, along with a list of recommendations, by June 16, 2013, according to a statement.
The decision to carry out a joint inspection of apparel units was taken at a meeting of BGMEA and CDA to discuss the reasons for the collapse of buildings in view of the April 24 Rana Plaza building collapse that killed more than 1,100 garment workers.
