Hankook Tire announced today plans to open its 8th global manufacturing plant in Clarksville, Tennessee — the first U.S. plant for tire manufacturer.

Hankook is investing over $829 million into the new plant, which the company said will provide additional capacity for their growing U.S. market, as well as 1,800 fulltime jobs for the region.

"This new facility will help Hankook Tire accomplish our plan to establish a production base in all major markets," said Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire. "We will be able to provide our customers, consumers and vehicle manufacturers with high quality tires and industry leading service to meet the demands of the American market."

Clarksville is located in an area with an extensive transportation network, Hankook said, including rail, plane and interstate highway networks, as well as regional access to the Mississippi River inland waterway.

"I want to thank Hankook Tire for its substantial investment in Tennessee and for the 1,800 jobs they'll create in Montgomery County," said Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, who was on hand for today's announcement.

Ground breaking is expected by the end of 2014, with tire production rolling by 2016.
