Total Hockey Again Named to Inc. 5000

For the eighth consecutive year, Total Hockey, Inc. has been named to the Inc. Magazine list of 5,000 fastest-growing private companies. Total Hockey has claimed position No. 2,981 after experiencing a three-year growth rate of 117 percent and adding 290 jobs in 2014.

Inc. Magazine is an American monthly publication focused on growing companies. For 34 years, Inc. has welcomed the fastest-growing private companies in America into a very exclusive club. On average, the companies on the list have grown almost sixfold over the past three years.

“We are honored to be included in the Inc. 5000 list yet again in 2015,” said Michael Benoit, founder, president and chief executive officer of Total Hockey. “It is through hard work, perseverance and dedication that we are able to grow with each passing year. I foresee this trend continuing well into the future.”

Total Hockey, Inc., founded in 1999, has expanded dramatically into key markets since 2006. Today, Total Hockey is the fastest-growing specialty hockey retailer in the U.S., operating stores in seven of the top fifteen hockey markets. The company has a compound annual sales growth rate of 25 percent over the last 10 years and revenues of nearly $60 million in 2014. Since 2012, the company’s retail locations have doubled.

In 2014, Total Hockey opened stores in Ann Arbor, Mich. and Algonquin, Ill. The Total Hockey strategy team also implemented a state-of-the-art warehouse management system, which streamlined multiple back-end functions that cut down on costs, while enhancing the customer experience both in-store and online.

More recently, Total Hockey expanded to Colorado, Ohio, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin after acquiring Denver-based hockey and lacrosse retailer, the Players Bench Corporation. Total Hockey now operates 28 stores in 13 markets, including Chicago, Colorado Springs, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Madison, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Salt Lake City and Washington D.C.

Total Hockey is also involved in key partnerships and organizations. The exclusive hockey retailer of USA Hockey, Total Hockey recently launched First Stride, a program that allows children to try hockey at no cost. HockeyGreen, also developed and executed in-house, provides players with an incentive to recycle their broken and unusable composite hockey sticks instead of just throwing them away. In addition, Total Hockey vaunts vital partnerships with manufacturer CCM, as well as NHL hockey clubs Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues.
