Global Closure Systems (GCS) has developed a new bi-injected plastic jar packaging, which can be used as an alternative to glass packs.

The double-walled jar, with an inner opaque layer and a translucent outer layer, has been created using cube technology, which enables shorter cycle times as individual steps in the manufacturing process, such as mold filling and the cooling phase, are carried out simultaneously.

Made out of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the jars are claimed to be shatterproof, thus improving consumer safety while maintaining the aesthetics of the product and brand recognition.

Bender, GCS's production plant in Frankenthal/Pfalz, Germany, has installed injection-moulding and packing lines to produce the product at high volumes.

GCS said that new design, which replicates look and feel of the old glass containers, will reduce overall carbon footprint.

The company recently developed bi-injected flip-top cap with a tamper-evident device.

Italian vinegars producer Ponti will use the push-on cap to pack its products.

GCS' factory Zeller Plastik Italy has manufactured the cap for PCO 1881 bottle.

The tamper-evident band, which the consumer has to break before being able to pour from the bottle or container, ensures product security in addition to the outer sleeve, GCS said.
