Mississippi County Planning&Development Committee Approves in Funding for Big River Steel

Local news outlets reported late Tuesday that the Mississippi County Planning and Development Committee approved $14.5 million in funding for a planned new steel mill in Arkansas. Big River Steel is a proposed $1.1 billion flat rolled steel mill project headed by steel industry veteran John Correnti.

The $14.5 million in funds would be appropriated from the county's economic development tax and still need to be approved by the county's finance committee.

The project remains dependent on whether the Arkansas legislature approves $125 million in bonds to finance the project in the state.
