Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steelmaker Baotou Iron and Steel Co. (Baogang Group) announced on October 17 that in the January-September period of this year its finished steel exports amounted to 946,300 mt, increasing by 22.84 percent year on year; while the value of these exports totaled $560 million, up by 8.11 percent year on year.
Although the market is characterized by weakness resulting from the imbalance between supply and demand, the overcapacity for the lower-priced and mid-priced products, and the pressure from antidumping cases, the company said, Baogang kept adjusting the strategy to meet the demand in the market and optimizing the structure of export products.
Baogang's exporting target of finished steel for 2013 is 1.2 million mt. During the period of first three quarters, 78.86 percent of this goal has been accomplished.
