The government of Kaohsiung City, southern Taiwan, is in the administrative process to procure 60,000 LED street lamps through an open-bid. Lite-On Technology and Everlight Electronics are believed to stand a relatively high chance of winning among the 16 competitors due to their advantage of having won open-bids held by the Taipei City government, according to market analysts.
Leotek Electronics, a Lite-On Technology subsidiary, won contracts to supply 6,000 and supply 8,000 LED street lamps to the Taipei City government, while Everlight won two contracts each for 9,000 lamps, the sources indicated.
In addition to Kaohsiung City, the two companies are expected to participate in open-bids for the procurement of 42,000 LED street lamps by the government of New Taipei City, northern Taiwan, and 52,000 units by the government of Tainan City, southern Taiwan, the sources said.
Leotek said it expects LED street lamp shipments in 2013 to increase 45% from 2012 and corresponding revenues by 30% to NT$2 billion (US$68.6 million).
Lite-On IT on January 8 reported revenues of NT$10.9 billion for December, the highest monthly level since October 2010. Fourth-quarter revenues were NT$32.06 billion, up 2% on quarter and 10% on year. 2012 revenues were NT$121.45 billion, rising 2% from 2011.
