Still waiting to get 4G? That's old hat: EU is already thinking about 5G. Revealed by European Commission recently, Neili keluosi, digital agenda commissioner of EU, will announce the foundation of 5G PPP(Public-Private-Partnership) association on 17 December. Early this year, EU said that they are expected to preempt the zenith of technology and hopefully to regain its leadership in mobile.
EU's investing €50 million ($65.3 million) into research with the hope that the next-next-generation cellular technology will be a practical reality by 2020. Most communication companies such as HUAWEI also made a move toward 5G. This November, HUAWEI announced that they will inject 600 million dollars into the development of 5G in the next 5 years and also with a 2020 target. In 2020, the peak rate of mobile broadband may exceed 10Gbps which is 100 times faster than 4G. In addition, Samsumg also estimated 5G will used for commercial until 2020 and a Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo said that they are considered to run 5G before the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
And what is 5G?
Thus far there is no specific definition of 5G, but a series of demands is already thrown out, such as implementation of ubiquitous access and seamless compatibility. 5G is a intelligent and high-volume mobile internet with the character of DSN which can provide more faster and cheaper internet service as well as the function of virtual network. In one word, the goal of 5G is to develop a much more rapid, more efficient and more fuel-efficient ultra mobile broadband technology.
