Around 5000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander models have been recalled in Australia for a fault relating to the SUVs’ transmission.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee (pictured top) and Jeep Commander (pictured below) models affected were built between 2005 and 2010 and are part of a global recall of about 469,000 Chrysler Group SUVs found to have a software fault linked to the vehicles’ transmission resulting in the gearbox inadvertently shifting itself into neutral.
Fiat Chrysler Group Australia’s Karla Leach told CarAdvice the majority of the vehicles impacted by the recall are Jeep Grand Cherokees.
“We are in the process of notifying the impacted owners,” Leach said.
Recalled vehicles will receive a software update at no cost to customers, taking about 30 minutes to complete.
Leach said there have been no known cases of the problem occurring in Australia, nor any injuries resulting from the issue.
