Porsche 911 Blu Edition: Eco-Focused Model Rumoured for Frankfurt Debut

Reports of a new eco-conscious Porsche 911 Blu Edition have surfaced following the leak of an alleged official image.

Published on Porsche enthusiast forum 911uk.com, the 911 Blu Edition is said to be powered by a detuned version of Porsche’s 3.4-litre straight-six direct injection engine developing 223kW and 287Nm.

Fitted with low-friction pistons and lightweight con-rods, the engine is understood to be joined by a dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission, start-stop and cylinder deactivation systems. Regenerative brakes reportedly also aid the car’s green intentions along with efficiency focused aerodynamic enhancement including active grille shutters.

According to the speculation, the Blu Edition will claim 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds, a top speed of 266km/h, average fuel consumption of 6.4 litres per 100 km and average CO2 emissions of 152g/km. For comparison, the base 257kW/390Nm PDK 911 Carrera has respective figures of 4.6 seconds, 287km/h, 8.2L/100km and 194g/km.

Coming as standard with a 22kg removable hard top and finished in Riviera Blue with contrasting Guards Red highlights on the roof, mirrors, front air intakes and front lip spoiler, the 911 Blu Edition rides on 18-inch hollow-spoke wheels. Porsche’s Active Suspension Management will also be optional rather than standard.

According to the forum post, only 911 units of the rear-wheel drive only Blu will be produced, with the special edition model exclusively available to members of officially approved Porsche Clubs via a lottery system.

Despite its ‘special’ status, the 911 Blu Edition is believed to be priced as an entry-level vehicle to sit below a base 911 in Germany and the UK.

If it eventuates, the 911 Blu Edition will be part of Porsche’s 50th anniversary celebrations at the Frankfurt motor show, which starts on September 12.
