The Economic Downturn in Italy Resulted in Nearly 5, 000 Fewer Visitors

The economic downturn in Italy resulted in nearly 5, 000 fewer visitors attending the Plast 2012 exhibition in Milan last week compared with the 2009 event. There were a total of 50, 593 visitors to Plast 2012, down from 55, 175 in 2009, according to figures issued by the event organizer Promaplast. The fair took place in the middle of a severe economic downturn in Italy which has affected the country’s plastics market. Italian visitors to Plast 2012 numbered 32, 431, down from 37, 586 in 2009. International visitors to Plast 2012 increased by about 500 to 18, 162. The total number of exhibitors at Plast 2012 was 1, 514, higher than 2009’s 1, 478. But net exhibiting area at Plast 2012 was smaller, at 56, 832 square meters, compared with 59, 714 square meters in 2009. The busiest day of Plast 2012 was Thursday May 10, which accounted for 27 percent of all visits. The slowest day was Saturday May 12, accounting for 12 percent of visits.
