Medical technology provider Integra LifeSciences has introduced Integra Compact Cranial Closure System that provides titanium implants for non-loadbearing (non-facial) operative cranial neurosurgical procedures.
Featuring a small and simple tray design, the system enhances efficiency in both the operating room and the hospital central sterilization department.
The device also includes low profile plates which are thin but strong titanium alloys, and provide better patient aesthetics.
In addition, the device features the FDA-approved Integra Compact Disposable Powered Driver and new pre-sterilized, disposable, battery powered screwdriver that is used for rapid fixation of the implant's plates and screws.
Integra neurosurgery marketing vice president Pete Ligotti said the new cranial closure system helps round out the company's neurosurgical product offerings.
"Cranial closure occurs immediately following repair of the dural lining surrounding the brain," Ligotti added.
"We offer an extensive line of our DuraGen products for dural repair, and now, with our new cranial closure system, we provide neurosurgeons with the full line of products that they need for a cranial closure procedure."
The company said it will feature the Cranial Closure System at the 2013 AANS Annual Meeting, which is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana, US, until 1 May 2013.
