Misbranding Forces Nestle USA to Recall Hot Pockets Four Cheese Pizza Snack Bites

Nestlé USA has issued a voluntary recall of a frozen pizza snack product because of misbranding and undeclared allergens.

The product that has been recalled is the Hot Pockets Four Cheese Pizza Snack Bites. The food and beverage company missed out on declaring known allergens egg, milk, soy, and wheat on the packaging.

Nestle says that the product was not sold in retail but was rather donated to a Missouri-based charitable organization.

It revealed that the snack-sized Hot Pocket item, which is frozen and triangular-shaped, was given to the organization on 22 June 2017. It was donated in 600lb bulk packaging and could have been repackaged later in resealable plastic bags and distributed further and/or sold to food banks across the state.

Nestle says that the current recall doesn’t include any of its Hot Pockets items of any variety that are sold in retail supermarkets.

The company, in a statement, said: “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs, milk, soy or wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

“Consumers who have received or purchased the repackaged product should not consume it. The product should be discarded or returned to the place of receipt/purchase.”

Last week, Nestle Prepared Foods had to recall nearly 26,400 pounds of pork and beef hot pocket items in the US, also because of misbranding and undeclared allergens.
