According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in January of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 37,134 units, rising by 19 percent as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
In January this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 25,835 units, rising by 22.6 percent year on year. Turkey's total motor vehicle sales in 2012 declined 10 percent, while passenger car sales fell by six percent, both compared to the previous year.
In the given month, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 56,578 units, falling by 4.1 percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 27,961 units, falling by 12.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The revenue for these export sales reached $1.5 billion for total motor vehicle and component exports, falling by 43 percent, while the revenue for passenger car exports totaled $422.7 million, falling by 15 percent, both compared to the first month of 2011.
In January this year, Turkey's motor vehicle imports increased by 28.1 percent, while its passenger car imports rose by 22.6 percent year on year, totaling 23,669 units and 25,835 units respectively. Imported vehicles constituted 64 percent of Turkey's total motor vehicle sales in the first month of 2013, up from 59 percent recorded in the same month of 2012. In the passenger car segment, imported cars accounted for 76 percent of total sales, increasing compared to the 66 percent recorded in January 2012.
