US-based Trident Seafoods has agreed to acquire the assets of Western Alaska Fisheries in Kodiak, Alaska, from Westward Seafoods.
The acquisition includes Western Alaska Fisheries' plant in Kodiak with a capacity to process 45 million pounds of seafood annually which includes pollock, cod, and salmon among other species, Undercurrent News reported.
It is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Commenting on the acquisition, Trident CEO Joe Bundrant said: "We're excited to be able to expand our presence in Kodiak.
"I was born in Kodiak and have a vested interest in Trident's ongoing commitment to Alaska's sustainable fisheries and the community of Kodiak."
The company is currently moving its processing activities out of its Virginia plant and into the new site in Georgia, where it plans to add 50 new people.
Trident Seafoods currently has processing facilities in Akutan and Sand Point, Alaska; and Anacortes, Bellingham, and Seattle, Washington.
The company offers ready-to-prepare seafood items for foodservice and retail distribution markets in the US.
