According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's rebar (including round bar) exports amounted to 749,927 metric tons, increasing by one percent year on year and up 3.3 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $443 million, falling by 8.4 percent compared to May 2012 and up three percent from the previous month.
On the other hand, in the first five months of the current year Turkey's rebar exports stood at 3.5 million metric tons, down four percent year on year, while the total revenue of these exports amounted to $2 billion, decreasing by 11.7 percent as compared to January-May 2012.
In May this year, Turkey's rebar exports to the UAE decreased by 37 percent compared to April, constituting the second consecutive month of decrease on month-on-month basis. However, the country remained the second largest rebar export destination for Turkey in the first five months of the year, following Iraq which has steadily increased its rebar imports from Turkey since 2010.
