An estimated 582,000 chicken across seven farms have been affected by the bird flu virus outbreak in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.
The virus was confirmed after security laboratory technicians of high security laboratory of the National Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) identified the presence of bird flu virus at the seven farms belonging to Industrias Bachoco, Mexico's leading chicken producer.
Mexico's agricultural agency Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has supplied more than one million doses of the avian flu vaccine to limit the flu from spreading to the surrounding farms.
The authorities have said that although the specific strain of the bird flu virus has not been determined, it does not affect humans.
