Film manufacturing and coating firm Perlen Packaging is injecting over CHF20m ($20.3m) for expanding its PVdC coating line capacity in Perlen, Switzerland.
The company, a unit of of industrial group CPH Chemie + Papier Holding, manufactures high barrier PVdC films for blister packaging.
Perlen Packaging sales and marketing director Johannes Giessler said: "The pharma markets in Europe are continually growing and the demand for barrier films is increasing.
"Thanks to the continuous investments in our technology and our GMP standard production facilities in Germany and Switzerland, we can ensure the continued availability of our high-quality products for the European pharmaceutical market."
The company has also begun construction on a production facility at Wujiang, China. It is expected to begin operations next year.
Perlen Packaging CEO Wolfgang Grimm said: "The Asian pharmaceutical markets are showing double-digit growth rates. As the first foreign company to set up a production facility in China, Perlen Packaging's aim is to cater to the expected growth in the region and to better serve the markets from a local site."
Switzerland-headquartered Perlen operates three plants in Germany, Switzerland and the US to produce coated films ranging from Mono PVC to ultra-high PVdC.
