Domino's Goes to Germany, While Rival Eagle Boys Expands Hoyts Cinemas Partnership

Australian ASX-listed fast food chain Domino’s Pizza has announced it is acquiring Germany’s largest pizza chain Joey’s Pizza.

Following the October purchase of Western French chain Pizza Sprint, increasing the presence of Domino’s in France to 330 outlets.

Australian-based Domino’s Pizza will take on 212 German stores through a joint venture with UK-listed Company Domino’s Pizza Group plc. The Australian group will hold a two-thirds equity interest in the partnership.

Meanwhile, rival Australian pizza chain Eagle Boys is developing its ongoing relationship with Hoyts cinemas by opening its 13th and 14th store within the movie chain’s network.

The latest stores will be located in HOYTS Sunnybank, Brisbane and HOYTS Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood, Melbourne.

Hoyts and Eagle Boys have been in partnership for the past five years but there has been a growth in the cinema based stores over the past 12 months with five new store openings.

During 2015 Eagle Boys, also teamed with Jetstar to serve its pizzas on domestic flights and with BP’s Wild Bean Cafes to see its products served in 98 of BP’s rest stops.

“We’ve identified suitable market with Hoyts cinema and we’re excited to continue to further our mark within the network,” said Robin Heslehurst, Brand Manager for Eagle Boys Express, the name given to the convenience arm of the Eagle Boys network.

Eagle Boys Express now operates 52 stores across Australia’s airports, convenience stores and shopping centres.
