LED Semiconductor Lighting Is The Fourth Revolution in The Way of Human Lighting

LED semiconductor lighting is the fourth revolution in the way of human lighting after the incandescent lighting, fluorescent lighting and energy saving lamp lighting. Because of energy saving, environmental protection, long life, rich colors and other characteristics, LED has been the most promising artificial light in 21st century. In the background of the rising demand for energy saving in the world, to realize the  domestic production of the key chip which is needed badly in the semiconductor lighting market has significant influence. With the completion of Tongfang Nantong LED semiconductor industry base, the foreign monopoly situation of the high-end products of high brightness Light Emitting Diode (LED) will be completely broken.   The news that Tongfang NantongLED semiconductor industry base is put into operation officially on August 8th of 2011 got attention from the industry immediately.

It’s said that the industrial base will have more than 2 billion yuan annual sales and nearly 500 million yuan profits, providing about 2500 jobs.

What makes the LED industry excited is that the foreign monopoly situation of the high-end products of high brightness Light Emitting Diode (LED) will be completely broken. The completion of the project, filled in our blacks in the production of high brightness and high power LED epitaxial wafers and chips.  

In recent years, China's LED industry is mainly concentrated in the area of low-tech and low added value end applications such as common landscape lighting. The LED lighting enterprisers in China are difficult to complete high-tech lighting products due to their restrictions on independent R & D capability.

LED light technology has been classified as the strategic and emerging industry in the Twelfth Five-year Plan.It is estimated that China's electricity consumption for lighting accounts for about 12% of the total electricity consumption, and China's total generating capacity is 3,000 billion kWh in 2010. If the semiconductor lighting entered one-third of the lighting market, we could save 30% of the electricity or 100 billion degrees annually.

Therefore, Tongfang attaches great importance to the development of LED semiconductor lighting industry. Tongfang built the LED industry base in Nantong after in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenyang.

It was revealed that Tongfang invested over 3 billion yuan to Nantong base independently. The base has 48 LED wafer production machines and a LED Technology Center with 100 million yuan investment. It can produce 2.4 million LED chips every year. Tongfang has mastered the technology of LED lighting, on the base of which it devote itself to solving the problems in China’s LED production. For now, Tongfang has got nearly 100 LED wafer and chip manufacturing patents.

In Tongfang’s opinion, there are only two ways to have a long-term development in the LED lighting industry. One way is having their own core technology and becoming the leading enterprise at last, and another way is doing accessories for the large enterprisers but losing the competitiveness gradually. What Tongfang choose is the first way.

Tongfang will play the leading part in the area of LED semiconductor lighting through its industry construction in several aspects such as LED Epitaxial Wafer, High-end LED TV Backlight Module and so on.

The operation of Nantong LED semiconductor industry base is a milestone for China's LED industry to enter an independent new time. It also marks that we have not only realized the domestic production of the key technologies in semiconductor lighting but reached the world's advanced level which will have a far-reaching influence on the development of LED industry.
