The overall aim of the European Research Project EUROFIT is to implement an online platform for body measurements, which are based on 3 D scans. An open framework should be established, that enables designers and industrialists to draw useful shape information and use it in their product development processes in an easy and direct way.
In addition database owners can pool the data they already hold and generate income from its use and third party IT companies can develop new services to reuse pooled data in unforeseen ways.
A successful Review Meeting of EUROFIT took place in the midyear 2013 in Luxembourg with the participation of its partners and representatives of European Commission. The first release of the portal was shown and successfully passed. Now the research project is in its second stage, the project duration will last until the end of May 2014.
New technologies for the gathering, storage and analysis of anthropometric data (i.e. 3D scanners) have boosted the disposability of digital anthropometric resources. The availability of these massive data pools has created the opportunity to exploit shape information far beyond current 1D-measurement use.
R&D work therefore focused on the development of effective methods for 3D shape data aggregation and analysis in a reliable but economically sustainable way, as well as on the development of sector-specific applications and user-friendly interfaces. Project work will be rounded off by a four-month demonstration phase by industrial end-users from the apparel, orthotics and personal protection equipment branches.
Human Solutions main role and responsibilities in the EUROFIT project include the design and definition of the EUROFIT portal architecture as well as its implementation. Further more, based on its long years experience, the company has contributed to the harmonisation of 3D datasets and development of innovative 3D data handling tools.
