Wine Production in France Anticipated to Grow by 10%

Wine production in France is anticipated to grow by 10% this year as the grape harvests in the Bordeaux region have improved over the past two decades.

Bloomberg quoted France Agriculture Ministry as saying: "Harvests were able to start in optimal conditions in most regions, and by Oct. 1 the bulk of vineyards was picked.

"In Bordeaux, the sanitary situation is very satisfactory after warm and dry September weather."

According to the Ministry, vintage this year will increase to 46.45 million hectoliters from 42.37 million hectoliters during the previous year.

The white-wine grapes harvest is completed while the picking for red-wine grapes started at the end of September.

Bordeaux, which is said to be the country's biggest wine-exporting region, is expected to produce 6.01 million hectoliters of wine this year, up 52% from 3.97 million hectoliters produced in the last year.

Other wine producing regions in France such as Burgundy, Beaujolais, Charentes and Alsace are also expected to witness growth in production.
