It Is Advertising a Brand New Three-Door Corsa Base Model for $11,990 Driveaway

Opel Zafira $36, 990 Price Revealed; Corsa Clears From $11, 990, Insignia $27, 990

The Opel Zafira would have been priced from $36,990 had the local division not closed its doors one week before the people-mover’s planned launch.

Information on automotive specifications database Redbook reveals a two-grade line-up for the Zafira: the $36,990 Sport petrol and $43,990 Luxury diesel.

Both grades were shipped to Australia in anticipation of the car’s introduction and are now available in dealerships, despite never officially being launched before Opel Australia’s closure announcement in August.

VFACTS sales data released yesterday reveals 12 Zafiras were sold in Australia in December.

A round up of brand new cars in stock at dealerships across the country reveals the Zafira is now available at clearance prices, the Sport from $31,450 driveaway and the Luxury from $35,990 driveaway.

The entry-level Opel Zafira Sport teams a turbocharged 125kW/260Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It claims a 9.6-second 0-100km/h sprint and combined cycle fuel consumption of 7.3 litres per 100km.

Among its standard features list are 17-inch alloy wheels, auto headlights and wipers, daytime running lights, LED tail-lights, front and rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation, and a seven-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition.

The flagship Opel Zafira Luxury features a 121kW/350Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, claiming combined cycle consumption of 6.0L/100km and 0-100km/h in 9.9sec.

Additional features of the Zafira Luxury include larger 18-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, active-cornering bi-xenon headlights with auto high-beam dipping function, sunroof, leather upholstery, front sports seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Dealers are also offering big savings on remaining stock of other Opel models.

One Western Australia dealer is advertising a brand new three-door Corsa base model for $11,990 driveaway, representing a significant saving over the car’s regular $16,490 list price.

A Victorian dealer is also advertising a new Corsa OPC for $21,990 driveaway, well down on its $28,990 list price.

WA and Victorian dealers are advertising stock of the entry-level Opel Astra hatch for $18,990 driveaway, down from its $23,990 list price, while dealers in WA, Victoria and Queensland are offering the Astra OPC hot-hatch for under $40,000, reduced from its $42,990 list price.

Savings of well over $10,000 are also available for the mid-sized Opel Insignia, with one Victorian dealership asking $27,990 driveaway for the entry-level model that was officially priced at $38,490 before on-road costs.

Two Victorian dealerships are also advertising the Insignia OPC performance sedan for just under $50,000 driveaway, representing a similar saving over the car’s official $59,990 list price.

Dealers are continuing to honour Opel’s standard three-year/100,000km warranty and capped-price servicing program.

Opel sold 1610 cars in Australia last year, including 510 in the five months following the confirmation of its closure.
