The first College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship is leading the way in environmental stewardship by incorporating sustainability as a key part of its operations. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is recognizing CFP, Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and AT&T Stadium for fostering environmental sustainability with the Playoff Green program.
The Playoff Green Program is designed to implement green endeavors while raising environmental awareness. During the past week 100 trees were planted in Arlington, Texas as part of the program’s green legacy. The group will also recycle solid waste at all major CFP venues including the Dallas Convention Center and AT&T Stadium.
A partnership with North Texas food banks was also established to reduce, recover and recycle food waste at the events. Recycling food scraps is good for the environment and great for business! CFP is also informing fans of simple behaviors they can adopt to help cut water usage during the festivities.
On game day, AT&T Stadium will be green powered through use of renewable energy certificates provided by TerraPass. The certificates used at the championship game are being generated locally by wind farms in Texas. TerraPass is also offsetting the travel emissions for both teams traveling to North Texas for the championship game.
Love of sports is something millions of Americans share. Across the country, teams and fans are channeling that enthusiasm into protecting our communities by greening sports — saving energy, cutting waste and cleaning up pollution.
