Chronicled Unveils Tamper-Evident Adhesive Seal Strips

Chronicled, a San Francisco based blockchain and IoT technology, has unveiled a new tamper-evident adhesive seal strip.

The new adhesive seal strip branded as CryptoSeal contains a Near Field Communication (NFC) chip embedded with identity information. The NFC chip is immutably registered and also blockchain verified.

The new CryptoSeals will hit the shelves late 2016 and come in standard offerings and unique solutions. They will also come with customizable sizing and adhesives to suit a range of packaging from envelopes to shipping containers.

Cellotape Smart Products, a California based manufacturing company, jointly developed the tamper-evident form factor for the adhesive seal strips with Chronicled.

Cellotape Smart Products president Tim Daly said: “We see potential to combine our expertise in materials, adhesives, engineering, and printed electronics with Chronicled's expertise in blockchain and IoT to create solutions for the packaging, shipping, logistics, and product authentication markets.”

According to Chronicled, CryptoSeal can be used in pharmaceutical tracking which demand a secure chain of custody and unchangeable provenance.

The seal on CryptoSeals, besides bearing the object’s identity, also records its registrant’ identity as well as packaging or metadata of the asset to the blockchain.

Chronicled CEO Ryan Orr said: "You can think of the CryptoSeal like the old system of the King's Signet Ring stamping a wax seal on a letter. The signet holder is analogous to the registrant of the CryptoSeal, the wax to the chip inside of the seal, and the stamping of the signet is like the signing of the CryptoSeal to the Blockchain.

“On its own each component, from the cryptographic chips to the tamper evident seals and blockchain registration, is necessary but insufficient to solve the problem. Together the three technologies create a strong solution."

CryptoSeals can also be used in other business that require high-value asset verification and supply chain provenance such as medical equipment, electronics, forensic evidence tracking, cold chain, and fine art.
