US insurance holding company WR Berkley has established a new underwriting business, Berkley Fire & Marine Underwriters, to concentrate on inland marine and related property risks regionally and nationwide.
The products and services of the new insurance unit will be marketed through independent agents and brokers, the company said.
Headquartered in Chicago, Berkley Fire & Marine will underwrite products on an admitted basis on behalf of Berkley Insurance Company and other member insurance companies of WR Berkley.
In order to ensure smooth operations of Berkley Fire & Marine, the insurer has appointed John Geary as president of the new business.
With over 25 years of property casualty insurance industry expertise, Geary was most recently serving as vice president of inland marine for a US insurance group and also held senior positions with other major insurers.
Established in 1967, WR Berkley Corporation operates as commercial lines writers in the US in five segments including specialty insurance, regional property casualty insurance, alternative markets, reinsurance and international.
