On the eve of the 2013 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show and Global Tire Expo, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) held its annual meeting in Las Vegas. It passed two resolutions on Nov. 4, 2013.
1. Comp time. TIA supports H.R. 1406, the "Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013," which amends the Fair Labor Standards Act by allowing employers to offer private-sector employees the choice of paid time off in lieu of cash wages for overtime hours worked.
2. Marketplace fairness. TIA not only supports S.743 – which would establish one uniform system to administer and collect sales tax in states with a sales tax -- but also urges the United States Congress to pass it in a timely manner.
Both resolutions will be put on file with resolutions adopted in previous years to dictate association policy, according to Freda Pratt Boyer, TIA's vice president.
