Gentina's Textile Center Launched 'Code of Conduct and Handbook of Textile and Fashion'

Argentina’s Global Compact Network (pactoglobal) and Sustainable Textile Center has launched the ‘Code of Conduct and Handbook of Textile and Fashion’.

Miguel Angel Gardetti, the Director of Sustainable Textile Center, and Flavio Fuertes, Director of the Global Compact Network in Argentina, presented the ‘Code of Conduct and Handbook of Textiles and Fashion’, before an audience comprising of media, business representatives and Government as well as civil society organizations.

The directors while presenting the Code noted that the textile and fashion industry is important for the Argentine economy, but from the point of sustainability, this industry often operates at the expense of the environment and social factors.

The initiative for preparing a Code, specifically for the textile and apparel sector, was proposed by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in May 2012 at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit in Denmark.

The Code was developed by the Nordic Fashion Association and the Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical (NICE) in partnership with the UNGC.

The Code of Conduct and Handbook for Textile and Fashion is aligned with the standards which are universally accepted and international code inspired by the ten principles of the UNGC and its basic documents.

In this regard, the Global Compact Network and Sustainable Center would conduct the ‘Leadership Training Program for Change in Textile and Fashion’ at the University of Bologna, in Argentina, on August 12, 2013.

The program is fully aligned with the Code and is supported by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Argentina and organizations such as the Metropolitan Design Center (CMD) and the Danish Fashion Institute.
