Today marked the official opening of Moose Creek Energy's new 4.2MW landfill gas-to-energy plant, located at the Lafleche Environmental Inc. facility in Moose Creek, Ont. Landfill gas-to-energy generating plants turn landfill gas from decomposing waste into electricity.
This facility is Energy Ottawa's (a subsidiary of Hydro Ottawa) second joint venture with Integrated Gas Recovery Services Inc. (IGRS); together, the two also own and operate the Trail Road landfill gas-to-energy plant in the City of Ottawa.
"This partnership is a win-win scenario," said Bryce Conrad, president and CEO of Hydro Ottawa. "We're turning a negative into a positive by harnessing landfill gas as a green energy source to power homes and businesses, while diverting greenhouse gas emissions in the process."
Energy Ottawa's renewable energy facilities include six hydroelectric stations at Chaudiere Falls, as well as landfill gas-to-energy plants at the Trail Road and Lafleche landfills.
