According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in March this year US scrap exports amounted to 1.7 million metric tons, falling by 20.5 percent year on year and down 8.3 percent from the previous month. In the first quarter of the year, the US exported 5.1 million mt of steel scrap, falling 6.7 percent compared to the first quarter of 2012.
In the first quarter of this year, US scrap exports to Turkey amounted to 1.6 million metric tons, increasing 7.2 percent year on year. US scrap exports to Taiwan in the period in question decreased by 3.2 percent year on year, amounting to 803,730 metric tons.
Meanwhile, in the given period, US scrap exports to China dropped by 18.4 percent year on year, totaling 547,355 metric tons, while US scrap exports to South Korea in the first quarter amounted to 635,102 metric tons, down 30 percent compared to January-March 2012.
