Very Slack Demand on The Spanish Softwood Lumber Market Caused Imports in Q1 2012

Very slack demand on the Spanish softwood lumber market caused imports in the first quarter of 2012 to slump by 28% below the figure for the same quarter of last year to 176, 239 m³. According to the association of Spanish wood importers and the wood industry imports of softwood lumber from European countries were 26% lower than a year earlier at 157, 924 m³. Their share of the total imports correspondingly rose to 90%. Imports from non-European countries, which accounted for 10% (13%) of the total, slumped by 43% to 18, 315 m³.
