Bad news for single males driving around in expensive sports cars: women aren’t attracted to you.
A poll by UK website Motors found more than half the women surveyed are not attracted to men in expensive sports cars, assuming they are arrogant, while significantly more women are attracted to men who drive ‘green cars’ rather than gas-guzzlers.
Fifty-three per cent of women think male drivers of sports cars are arrogant, while 44 per cent said they are self-centred, and 38 per cent think they are a danger on the road.
Both women and men perceived drivers of eco-friendly cars like the Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf as conscientious, intelligent and safe.
There is no mention of whether they are also perceived as smug and superior.
Women don’t just prefer green cars to sports cars. Even Ford Mondeo drivers were found to be more appealing, while hatchback drivers were said to be considered modest.
The results, collated from the responses of 2000 UK adults, fly against the beliefs of 48 per cent of males surveyed, who thought women would be more attracted to them if they drove an expensive car.
However the survey also went the other way, with 44 per cent of male respondents believing women who drive large 4×4 ‘school mum’ cars are arrogant, and 29 per cent thinking they are rude.
“The disparity between men and women suggests the yummy mummy ‘Chelsea tractor’ stereotype might be having a similar effect on men as sports cars appear to be having on women,” Motors journalist Phill Jones said.
Men and women did seem to agree on one thing though; cars should be black.
