Philippines Has Imposed an Import Restriction on Poultry Products and by-Products

The Agriculture Department of the Philippines has imposed an import restriction on poultry products and by-products from Mexico, due to an outbreak of bird flu.

Mexico recently reported detection of avian flu with serotype H7 in three commercial farms, reported Bworldonline.com.

The ban, which covers poultry meat, eggs, semen, chicks, domestic and wild birds, was issued to protect local poultry industry and human health.

Avian flu is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect the health of chickens, turkeys, and quails and cause high mortality rates of up to 100% within two days.

The department has directed its inspectors across all major ports of the country to check and confiscate all shipments of poultry products from Mexico.
