The Lid Has Been Lifted on The Toyota 86 Convertible Concept

Toyota 86 Convertible Concept Revealed

The lid has been lifted on the Toyota 86 Convertible concept ahead of its global unveiling at next week’s Geneva motor show.

Officially dubbed the Toyota FT-86 Open concept, the near-production-ready concept gives us our clearest look yet at the design of the all-but-confirmed 86 Convertible, which is expected to be revealed in its final form later this year.

The Toyota 86 Convertible concept features an electrically operated soft-top roof that stows seamlessly into the boot, maintaining the rear-wheel-drive sports car’s tight proportions and clean lines.

The 86 Convertible retains the coupe’s 2+2 cabin, and makes a statement in concept form with its contrasting white, yellow and navy blue upholstery and carpets.

The concept’s unique dashboard features a smartphone holster positioned alongside a compact audio head unit and three gauges displaying as-yet-undisclosed engine parameters.

Tipped to reach production by 2014, the Toyota 86 Convertible will almost certainly retain the coupe’s 147kW/205Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine that is shared with its sister car, the Subaru BRZ.
