The launch of the ‘Everyday Wear’ programme by the Ghanaian Government will increase the demand for Made-in-Ghana garments, and thereby boost the domestic industry, textile and apparel industry stakeholders have said.
At a workshop organized by Spinnet Textile and Garment Cluster, the textile and garment industry stakeholders urged the Ministry of Trade and Industry to launch the ‘Everyday Wear’ programme, and added that the programme would reap positive results if it is implemented at Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly levels.
They also urged the Ministry to ensure ease of access to industrial estates to garment industry stakeholders to help them boost their productivity.
Spinnet president Edwina Assan urged the Trade Ministry to announce incentives for domestic firms producing good quality products.
She suggested setting up of a common service centre where some specialized machinery procured by a particular company can be installed for use by other small and medium enterprises in the sector.
The Spinnet president also advocated setting up of revolving funds so that the industry players can avail capital at very low interest rates for enhancing their businesses.
She stressed that the Ministry should help the country’s garment sector in identifying new export markets.
