Volkswagen passenger pars has reported a sales of 5.74 million vehicles in 2012 a 12.7% increase from 5.09 million vehicles sold in 2011.
An increase of 30.6% in the sales was reported by the group in December 2012 with sale of 517,900 units against 396,600 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Volkswagen Group, Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand sales and marketing board member Christian Klingler said that the new Golf has strengthened the company's competitive position with an excellent start.
"2013 will be a very demanding year, and we will be facing new and difficult challenges," Klingler added.
The European market has faced a decline of 1.2% with sales of 1.70 million vehicles in 2012 compared to the 1.72 million vehicles sold in the last year.
In the Asia-Pacific region the brand sales was up by 23.2% for the year with 2.37 vehicles delivered against 1.93 million vehicles delivered during the previous year.
