Pakistan Divided 1,250 Acres of Industrial Land at Pakistan Textile City Into 277 Plots

The Textile Industry Division, Government of Pakistan, has divided 1,250 acres of industrial land at the Pakistan Textile City into 277 plots of varying sizes ranging from 0.5 acres to 5 acres, APP reported.

Of the 277 plots, 14 are to be allotted to the apparel making sector, 24 to the bed linen sector, 14 for denim manufacturing, 59 for textile dyeing, 20 for knitwear, 16 for towel making, 54 for weaving sector, and another 62 for downstream units like threads, zips and buttons.

14 plots would be kept aside for future provision.

The Karachi-based Textile City Project would have all basic infrastructural facilities like water, gas and electricity supply, and plots would be provided to investors tentatively from 2014-15.

Being set up as an industrial zone housing world class facilities for the value added textile sector, the Textile City is one of Pakistan’s mega projects being developed with an estimated investment of Pk Rs 1.5 billion for its initial infrastructure facility.

In fiscal year 2012-13, Pakistan exported textiles and apparel worth US$ 13.18 billion.

During the year, 114 new textile units were set up in Pakistan, while another 49 out of the 4,678 registered units were shutdown.
