Notebook vendors gearing up to push new 2-in-1s

Notebook brand vendors including Asustek Computer, Acer, Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell are preparing to launch their new Skylake-based 2-in-1 devices starting October and expect these devices to attract consumer demand to help boost their performance in 2015, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Microsoft's Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 have also seen rising sales and are expected to achieve shipments of 4-5 million units in 2015 with price cuts in the fourth quarter.

For the second half, Asustek has prepared its Transformer Book T100, T200 and T300 series as well as Transformer Book Chi series products including T90Chi, T100Chi and T300Chi.

Currently, 2-in-1 devices account for 20% of Asustek's notebook shipments and the company is planning to launch the T100HA, an upgrade from the existing T100 in October, priced starting US$279.

In addition to first-tier brand vendors, second-tier and China white-box players have also been aggressively pushing into the market and the 2-in-1 device market is expected to become a new battle zone among notebook players in 2016.
