UK-based packaging firm Sirane has announced that around 11 days additional in-store shelf-life has been achieved by an overseas customer during mushroom trials, by using its Sira-Flex Resolve film.
The mushrooms, which were packed in expanded polystyrene trays and stretch-wrapped in Sira-Flex Resolve film, showed no browning and no condensation during the trials, the company claims.
According to the company, Sira-Flex Resolve has been developed to have the optimum balance between humidity control and O2 and CO2 permeability.
It is a natural bio-polymer made from plants and is suitable for all types of vegetable fruit packaging.
Commenting on the mushroom trials, Sirane sales director Jeremy Haydn-Davies said that this is once again further testament to the unique properties of Sira-Flex Resolve, and results like this keep coming in.
Sirane managing director Simon Balderson said, "The results are remarkable. There is no condensation on the inside of the film and the product does not dry out.
"The package atmosphere is maintained with the optimum balance of atmospheric gases to prevent degradation. In simple terms, the food lasts longer."
Sirane manufactures packaging and other protective products for food and other applications. It offers absorbent products, such as meat pads, absorbent beetroot pads, sandwich and bakery pads, absorbent boneguards, and butchers range of absorbent products.
