Around 10,000 jobs will be created at Omoluabi Garment Factory located in Nigeria’s province of ?sun, Governor Rauf Aregbesola said, while addressing a public event hosted by the volunteer group De Raufs in the state capital city of Osogbo.
The huge employment creation at the Omoluabi garment factory is due to the factory being given the responsibility to mass produce uniforms for the pupils studying in public schools, as a part of the state government’s school uniform unification policy.
According to the public-private partnership, formed between the state government and the factory, the materials which would be used in manufacturing of school uniforms will be sourced from local producers.
The designing and sewing of school uniforms will be done by tailors from all over the state and private investors and other business people would additionally be involved for selling the uniforms at controlled prices at some of the selected shops in Osun.
The move is expected to not only contribute to economic development of the state, but would also give a boost to the struggling education sector by promoting unity among school students coming from different socio-economic backgrounds.
In a bid to create a unique identity for public school students by unifying the school uniforms, Aregbesola distributed free school uniforms to nearly 750,000 students on December 31, 2012.
