Dutch food firm Vion has renamed its UK pork business as Karro Food.
The company stated that the new name, which is derived from the Latin word meat Caro, is aimed at being sharp and clear. It also reflects the company's intention to be a quality pork producer, reported meatinfo.co.uk.
Karro will supply fresh pork, cured and cooked meats as well as frozen burgers and sausages to retail, foodservice and manufacturing customers.
Karro said that it would also retain the former brands of the Vion business which include Cookstown, McGee's, Case & Sons, Malton Bacon Factory, Key Country Foods and Snowbird.
Karro Food managing director Seamus Carr said that the move will allow Karro to strengthen its presence in the British pork industry.
In January 2013, Vion completed the management buy-out of its UK pork business, securing about 4,000 jobs.
