China-based solar-grade crystalline silicon wafer makers, considering that China government's temporary ban on polysilicon imports through export processing zones to block evasion of anti-dumping and anti-subsidization taxes is likely to decrease supply of polysilicon in the China market and thereby push up prices, have asked Taiwan-based fellow makers about OEM production using polysilicon supplied by international makers, according to PV industry sources in Taiwan.
These China-based makers, for example, plan to procure polysilicon from US-based makers and then have Taiwan-based fellow makers undertake OEM production of solar-grade crystalline silicon wafers which will be shipped to the China market, an expedient measure to cope with the temporary ban, the sources indicated.
