Sanyo and Sony are jointly planning to invest about NT$12bn ($ 410m) to build lithium-battery factories in Taiwan.
The two companies are said to be looking for local partners and Taiwanese government is also helping to find partners for the venture which could be Yulon Motor and Simplo Technolgy.
The investment is aimed at introducing new battery technologies that would allow forming a vertical industrial chain for electric cars in Taiwan which will cut the production costs of the electric cars in the country.
Earlier, Sony had reportedly planned to sell its battery department to reduce operating cost and enhance cash flow.
