Global chemicals company BASF has developed an antistatic thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) granulate under the Elastostat brand name in the TPU portfolio
Available as a masterbatch, Elastostat is part of the Elastollan product range and opens up large fields of application, especially for industrial packaging made of polyolefins.
According to the company, containers, in which combustible liquids or dusty goods are transported, are required to undergo antistatic treatment. The packages include big bags and plastic drums or cans.
Such materials are also transported in intermediate bulk containers, which, in their common form comprise a polyethylene inner container, a tubular metal outer frame as well as a pallet.
The masterbatch allows containers used for chemicals, foods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, to be produced at lower cost.
Other applications of the additive include pipelines, hoses and conveyor belts to avoid the electrostatic charging of the transported material.
