In celebration of National Scrabble Day, wordsmiths and boardgamers set the new record of 30 games played in 24 hours.
A new world record for the most consecutive games of Scrabble played in 24 hours has been set.
The title-clinching total of 30 games were played by the current Scrabble World Champion, Craig Beevers and a multitude of boardgame maestros to celebrate 2015’s National Scrabble Day.
Beevers triumphed in 29 of the 30 games played, losing in the final round to Canadian wordsmith, Jess Matthews, during the one-day marathon.
Thesaurus-brained Beevers dazzled onlookers with his command of the English language by playing words such as ‘basilect’, defined as ‘the least prestigious language of an area’ and ‘opercula’, the ‘covering flaps on a plant.’
“I am really proud to have accomplished the record and to have played such an instrumental role during the challenge,” said Beevers.
“We are very grateful to all players who took part.”
